The European AAL PETAL project will start in the coming weeks,
coordinated by Fabio Paternò (ISTI-CNR Pisa), head of the
Laboratory on
Human Interfaces in Information Systems, a
laboratory that already participates in other international
projects in the Ambient Assisted Living area.
PETAL is the
acronym of 'PErsonalizable Assistance Ambient Monitoring and
Lighting', a project funded by the European Commission under the
'AAL - Active and Assisted Living' program (AAL - call 2016
Living well with dementia, project duration: 2017 - 2020; Budget
EUR 1,904,527.00).
The objective of this Project is to extend the
time older people can live in their home environment by
increasing their autonomy and assisting them in carrying out
activities of daily living. In particular, our goals are to
provide older adults affected by mild dementia with useful and
usable means to increase their awareness and control of their
current lifestyle, by providing them with relevant and tailored
information in an intuitive and natural manner. This will be
achieved through an intelligent platform able to monitor elderly
behaviour and remotely control their environment, in particular
the lighting system, in order to positively stimulate the mood of
the elderly and mitigate any episodes of agitation or
irritability that are common in people with dementia.
The
kick-off meeting of the project will be held in the next few
weeks in Pisa at the Human Interface in Information Systems
Laboratory of CNR-ISTI. (CNR News
