Abstract
Antonio Crivello - "Performance comparison of indoor positioning systems and enabling their cooperation"
Abstract: Localisation of people and devices is a key component of context-aware systems. The user position represents the core information for detecting user’s activities, to discover devices activation, to implement proximity-based services, to perform people short or long term monitoring. The state-of-the-art of the indoor localisation systems is mainly represented by range-based systems but, as in any mature technology ?eld, common evaluation criteria are fundamental in order to add transparency to the market, by de?ning a common performance language and eventually to build and nurture stakeholders’ trust. During this talk, I will discuss some advances in range-based systems and a proposal for a common evaluation framework. Finally, I will briefly describe a proposal for enabling cooperation between indoor positioning systems. This idea is currently developing together with UJI University. The collaboration with UJI is a consequence of a visiting period granted by the GYM.
Luigi Malomo - "Computational Design and Automation in Digital Manufacturing."
Abstract: While in many fields computational power and digital automation are widely used and replaced workload-intensive activities, in the context of design and manufacturing, human expertise remains centric as digital technologies have until now served as tools for design, simulation and verification only. In this talk we will present two research projects that aim at filling the gap in the design-manufacturing pipeline exploiting computational methods in a novel and truly powerful way. In the first part of the talk, we will explain a method to automatically generate silicone molds for creating replicas of complex 3D geometries. In the second part of the talk we will show a new technique to automatically generate compelling 3D shells, composed of planar sheets of rigid material that are cut and transformed into flexible panels.
Giulio Rossetti - "CDLIB: a python library to extract, compareand evaluate communities from complex networks"Abstract: Community Discovery is among the most studied problemsin complex network analysis. During the last decade, manyalgorithms have been proposed to address such a task; however,only a few of them have been integrated into a common framework,making it hard to use and compare different solutions. To supportdevelopers, researchers and practitioners, in this paper weintroduce a python library-namely CDlib-designed to serve thisneed. The aim of CDlib is to allow easy and standardized accessto a wide variety of network clustering algorithms, to evaluateand compare the results they provide, and to visualize them. Itnotably provides the largest available collection of communitydetection implementations, with a total of 48 algorithms.
