Abstract
This project focuses on the design, development, and prototyping of next-generation cables for energy transmission and telecommunications, integrating advanced functionalities not yet available in the global market. The new cable designs will prioritize environmental sustainability by optimizing production processes and end-of-life management, exceeding current industry standards.
A key aspect of the project is the development of high-tech sheaths for these cable prototypes, utilizing polymeric matrices derived from bio-based sources and the chemical and mechanical recycling of plastic materials.
The CNR-ISTI unit will contribute to the project by developing machine learning methodologies for polymer science, refining Design of Experiments techniques, and predictive models for inferring the properties of composite materials. This approach aims to accelerate and enhance the discovery of innovative and eco-sustainable materials. Additionally, CNR-ISTI will support image and signal analysis processes for advanced computer vision-based systems to read informational markings on cable sheaths.
